The mystical treasures of an ancient culture

The exhibition „1000 years of INCAgold“ puts 86 original golden artifacts from the INCA dynasty of highest importance to art history on display. Visitors are invited on a tour through peoples having created pieces of art several thousand years ago. In dark and mythical environment with Peruvian background music of the highlands the exhibition presents the most beautiful excavated artefacts from the Museo Oro del Perú, Lima. But it is not only the gold that makes this exhibition so special: An exciting experiential tour gets visitors in close contact with text information, documentary movies, 3D-projections and guided tours into the mystical world of the Indians of the Andes and shows how much blood was wasted in exchange for the gold.

The exhibition shows selected artifacts giving visitors an impressive overview over the traditions and ceremonies of the population of the Andes before being conquered by the Europeans. Simultaneously, the golden treasures of the exhibition are testimony for the level of art of jewelry from 400 BC to 1532 AC

"The exhibition 1000 years of INCAgold opens a window to the people of the Americas with its highly recognized loans from the Museo Oro Del Perú. It gives a view on the foreign world and religion of the Andes' highly advanced population. The artifacts of the  INCAgold-exhibition give credit to the highly developed civilization and their majestic inheritance which makes people marvel even today."
Mag. Christoph Rahofer - managing partner, EMS

The Artifacts

The Artifacts are originals all different in nature: apart from jewelry and ornaments with mythological images pieces of daily use can be found as well as musical instruments, which are attributed to the cultural heritage of Peru. Exceptional is the priceless value of these artefacts made from pure and massive gold presented in a magnificent way.

Unique

Unique and partly for the first time outside of Peru these original artifacts represent only a small part of the incredible golden treasures of the Incas. The biggest portion has been melted by the Spaniards when conquering the land of the INCAs in the 16th century. Other portions have been transferred out of the country or hidden from the conquerors by the INCAs.
