Leonardo da Vinci

Man - Artist - Genius

On the 15th of April, 1452, a man was born who would change the world like no-one else. Having grown up in poor circumstances, Leonardo developed himself into a boundless inventor, a creative scientist, a universal genius and an artist who left us a wealth of revolutionary ideas still current to this day. He was a painter, sculptor, architect, art historian, natural scientist, musician, writer and inventor.

All 23 paintings integrated into one special exhibit

For the first time in history, all 23 paintings known to be created by Leonardo da Vinci are on display in one single exhibit. Normally, one would have to travel and wait for hours to see the Mona Lisa at the Louvre in Paris, the Benois Madonna in St. Petersburg and the Madonna in the Cave at The National Gallery in London.

From the 5th of October through the 26th of November, 2006, Leonardo da Vinci Man | Artist | Genius was presented at the historical Minoritenkirche in Vienna. The paintings were replicated and printed digitally in their original size. They are presented in chronological order so that developments in his work style throughout the years can be shown more clearly. Each painting is accompanied by its own story about the way in which it was made, the probability of its origins and the known stops along its world tour over the last 550 years. Even more interesting and curious is the originality of the various individual paintings. All background information of the paintings is on display.

Extraordinary: Accompanying music from the genius himself!

This exhibit is also very interesting for people who are interested in the compositions of Leonardo. Professor Reinhard Amon (University of Music and applied Arts, Vienna) and Meastro Prof. Contini have revived and recorded Leonardo’s original compositions. Visitors are accompanied throughout the exhibit by Leonardo’s own music.

First Exhibit at Minoritenkirche Vienna

The location for the first Leonardo da Vinci Man | Artist | Genius exhibit was no accident: It is in this church that visitors can find a very special 19th-century reproduction of the Last Supper. For the first time ever, this intricate creation of glass mosaic is presented together with all replicated originals.
